At Hawes Side Academy, we have been lucky enough to secure tuition from a Chinese Wushu instructor from Lancaster University. The children will receive weekly half hour sessions in addition to their Mandarin lessons and is to complement their learning about Chinese culture, which is based on the foundations of respect.
After a short demonstration by the Wushu teacher, we started our first lesson with a traditional Chinese greeting stance, then performed some gentle warm up stretching exercises.
During this first lesson, the children learnt the bow stance and the horse stance and managed to hold their positions for upto 5 seconds each time. Some children felt confident enough to share their learning and model stances at the front of the hall.
We finished our fantastic lesson with a further instructor demonstration and 5 minutes of relaxation and breathing exercises. After that, we were relaxed and ready to return to class.
