This week we have got our topic on rocks off to tasty start by making chocolate rocks. We started with milk chocolate and then built layers using milk and dark chocolate, which represented the sedimentary layers of sand, pebbles and shells in the formation of rock.
Next, we compressed the chocolate rocks in our hands (wrapped in cling film!) and used the heat of our finger tips to see layers of chocolate forming, which represented metamorphic rock.
Finally, we heated the chocolate rocks further with the palms of our hands to represent magma coming from the centre of the Earth to form igneous rock when cooled.
