Over the last week pupils and staff have been passing on their thanks, sharing memories and saying their goodbyes to Mr Shepherd as he retires after 14 years as Principal.
Through artwork, song, poetry, interviews, special messages and even quizzes everyone at school has been keen to show Mr Shepherd what a difference he has made to so many children’s lives over his years at our school.
A special event held in the academy on Wednesday organised by Mrs Barnes, incorporated elements of these tributes in order to celebrate with academy governors, local head teachers, past colleagues and parents.
After the event Mr Shepherd said, "This week has proven to be a very emotional one and it was fantastic to be joined by invited guests to look back over my many years at Hawes Side. Friday will be a very difficult day when I finally say goodbye to parents, staff and, most importantly, the children.”
The gathering was also a fantastic opportunity for Mr Shepherd to introduce Mrs Boothroyd (currently Vice Principal at the school) as the new Principal from 1st May 2019.
Mrs Boothroyd said “It really was an emotional day today as we said our sad farewells to Mr Shepherd after 14 very successful years at Hawes Side and it was lovely to see so many people wishing him well. He has been an excellent mentor over the years and I am thrilled at the prospect of continuing Hawes Side's journey as its Principal. On behalf of the Hawes Side community I would like to wish him all the very best and I am certain his legacy will live on”.
The academy would like to thank all pupils, staff, parents, governors and guests for helping make the events of this week an everlasting memory of Hawes Side Academy, including a special photo shoot on his last day with all pupils and staff involved.
We wish for Mr Shepherd every success in the future.
