5H had the fantastic opportunity on Monday to experience an entire day of creative writing. This opportunity was provided through work with the RSPB and the National Literacy Trust. The day began with the children being exposed to a wide rang of poetry, both familiar and abstract. This then led onto a sensory walk, where the children were tasked with some field work to immerse them in their surroundings- thankfully the sun was shining, making it even better!

For the rest of the day the children worked creatively, first writing group poems and then individual ones. We ended the day with poem performances and Anthony Briscoe, who was our freelance poet also performed for us- which the children enjoyed thoroughly.

Some comments from the day were,

“ I feel more positive towards poetry now!”

“ I loved the whole day, from start to finish”

“It was nice to meet a real performing poet!”
