This week, Year 5 had the exciting opportunity to visit the Grand Theatre to watch "The Boy at the Back of the Class" performed live on stage. The visit linked perfectly with our current English project, Tales Retold, helping to bring the story to life for the children in a new and engaging way.
Through the performance, pupils deepened their understanding of the important themes explored in the book, including courage, friendship, empathy and compassion. Seeing the characters and events unfold on stage helped the children visualise the story and strengthen their connection with the text.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the performance and were enthusiastic about how live theatre made the story feel even more memorable. It has truly been the icing on the cake for our work on this project so far.
We were especially proud of how exceptionally well behaved the children were throughout the visit. They demonstrated our school values at all times and represented the school brilliantly. Their positive attitudes, excellent manners and enthusiasm were a credit to both themselves and our school community.
As a school, we are delighted that the children embraced this creative experience so fully, and we hope the trip may even inspire some budding actors and performers in the future.
With more work on The Boy at the Back of the Class still to come next half term, Year 5 are excited to continue exploring the story in even greater depth following such an inspiring experience.
