What a fantastic evening we had at our “Book at Bedtime” event!
After the school day had finished, we transformed one of our classrooms into a cosy reading room, our Year 3 children got very cosy and dressed into their oodies, pyjamas, slippers and even with their favourite teddy bears tucked under their arms. It was wonderful to see everyone so comfortable and ready to share in the joy of reading together. The children’s values shone beautifully. They actively listened and attended well to the adults and activities taking place.
We began by stepping into the world of Beatrix Potter, listening carefully to her timeless tale of Peter Rabbit and enjoying the adventures of her much-loved characters. Mrs Randles showed the children how to use a new app to access the stories interactively and to hear these at audio books. The room was filled with imagination and excitement as Mr Fleckney read aloud his favourite chapter from 'The Magic Faraway Tree'. The children laughed and enjoyed listening as he shared his favourite element with lots of character and expression for was character.
The creativity continued with a fantastic live draw-along of 'The Gruffalo', where children followed step by step to create their own impressive illustrations. To top off our evening, we worked in teams to design beautiful bookmarks inspired by our favourite book characters.
Most importantly, the children demonstrated our school value of relationships – reading together, sharing ideas and enjoying each other’s company. A perfect bedtime story celebration! Another great example of how to celebrate 2026 - The National Year of Reading!
